We watched this video to get a physical sense of powers of 10. "Every 10 seconds we will look from 10 times farther away and our field of view will be 10 times wider...." Use these links to research your group's explorer.
John Cabot Vasco Nunez de Balboa Juan Ponce de Leon Christopher Columbus Henry Hudson Jacque Cartier Ferdinand Magellan We have been reading an amazing book called Wonder. It's about a 5th graders's first time attending middle school and his challenges. This book evokes many themes. These themes are of friendship, community, outsiders and insiders, support and more. How can we support people around us who struggle with being the outsider or being bullied? What do we do when we realize that we are the ones bullying or being the target of bullying? How can we be better despite such challenges? All of us can relate with August, Via, Jack Will, Julian & Charolotte as some point or another.
To gain more great information, check out this website. This teacher did an in depth study of the book we are reading. Here you will find pictures helping you understand each part of the story we have read. Remember when Mr. Tushman referred to Mr. T? Remember when August's parents talked about Doogie? Here you can find out the answers to some of the questions you might have. I would have loved to show you all this in class.....but the website is blocked at school.....:/ Click here for the helpful website. Hello new class!
