Hey Debzy, I like your idea of using video platforms, such as Khan Academy or Youtube, as a different way to explain the same concept to students. I sometimes find myself with the same problem--explaining something in one way and then trying to word in some other way, but it just ends up the same. This is a great idea to bring in different explanations but also different strategies to solve a problem.
I am definitely in agreement with your video strategy as a means of offering an alternative modality for students to learn the given day's topic. I often like introducing the lesson with a video and using a pause-and-chat kind of facilitated discussion to improve understanding of the concept. Students are always extra-engaged during videos and with the availability of internet and Youtube, that strategy could work even in the most extreme of technological deficient situations (as you mentioned in your reference to South America).
