I used part of my EDS Statement of Purpose essay and threw it in a Word Cloud, took a screen shot and pasted it here. The point of this particular paragraph that I used was unpacking my past education, cultural heritage and how they connect with my desire to be a teacher. I also explained about why I thought that UCSD's EDS program would help me achieve my goals to as a teacher.
After reflecting on this creation and noticing various words it chose to highlight and group together, I noticed that the larger idea words were the biggest while the more detailed, specific words were smaller. Also, I noticed that the words grouped together were interesting. For example, in the middle of the huge word experiences, the tiny word "sit" was right in the middle of the letters "r" and "i". "Teach" was grouped with "life-enriching", "planned" and "background". As a whole, the shape of the picture looks like it could be a brain. The words are intermingling with one another yet forming a whole rounded block. I thought in general, this exercise was interesting and fun. It would be a great way to start a conversation in the classroom or projects to illustrate individuals or groups and ideas.
