The final week to work on our 1st project! As we get the hang of writing narratives, we are working on introducing one another by describing our partner we were paired with. I am so "hyped" to watch you all create amazing pieces! Get ready to create your Prezi, finish the editing process of your writing, and sharpen your presentation skillzzz, yo!!!
Happy Monday! Along with learning about weather disasters in the next couple of weeks, we will be practicing our ability to write better narratives. You will get a chance to write a narrative using the information you know about a chosen weather condition that you researched and studied.
What is a narrative essay? A narrative is a story with a sequence of events happening in chronological order. Read this website. Choose one of the following narrative excerpts; "Learning Can be Scary" "The Manager. The Leader." "The Climb" "The Sacred Grove..." "Playground Memory" Which narrative example did you read and what did you notice about it? Comment below. The next major unit we will be focusing on in Room 17 will be on the topic of weather. We live in a city with great weather. We only fear fires (which many times we can prevent) and earthquakes (which could happen any time). What about tornadoes? Hurricanes? Volcanoes? We are very lucky to not have to deal with many of these weather issues.
We are going to read about these topics, discuss, research, write and present our findings! To get ahead of the game, watch some current events that are happening right now around the world. Learn as much as you can about these topics as we delve in. Click on the links below. Storm in Istanbul, Turkey Current storm time lapse in Hawaii (no audio) Tropical storm Iselle update (Aug. 8, 2014) What we don't know about hurricane season (August 7, 2014) Yellowstone Volcano and more on Yellowstone's Supervolcano About "El Niño" and the latest about it in San Diego What do you know about crazy storms? What do you want to know about them? This lady is being brave and putting her hand up a fake nostril only to find a prize at the end of her search.
I hope each and every one of you will be BRAVE this year and try everything out in our classroom! Let's make school a fun place to be! We want to discover new things and face new challenges! We want to GROW and become more responsible. We want to make new friends and deepen old ones. In order to do this, we must keep these familiar phrases in mind.... Safety first! On task Always be respectful Responsible These past two weeks, we have been slowly learning how to work with one another. We have done various team building activities including the Marshmallow Challenge! I am excited to see what sort of class we turn into as we work together. What are you excited about for this year? |
